1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” 4 He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. 5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, 6 “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” 7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” 10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear,

and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. - Psalm 2: 1-12

What they expected:

  • Political overthrow of Rome

  • Immediate freedom

  • National restoration

VS

What they got:

  • A donkey, not a war horse

  • Humility, not domination

  • A cross, not a throne

12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” 14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, 15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” - John 12:12-15

1. WE CELEBRATE A KING WHO FITS OUR EXPECTATIONS.

The Champ is Here!!!

“We love Jesus as King… until His kingship confronts our expectations.”

15 They cried out, “Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have NO king but Caesar.” 16 So he delivered him over to them to be crucified. - John 19:15-16

2. REJECTION HAPPENS WHEN THE KING DOESN’T SERVE OUR AGENDA.

The Champ is Here!!!

“When we reject God as King, we don’t become free...we just crown something else.”

6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” - Acts 1:6-8

3. THE KING WE REJECT IS THE KING WHO SENDS US.

The Champ is Here!!!

“The same King they rejected is now sending His followers to the very people who rejected Him.”

7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.

- Psalm 2:7-12

4. PURPOSE REQUIRES SURRENDER, UNDERSTANDING.

The Champ is Here!!!

“If your faith is built on expectations, it will collapse in confusion.

But if it’s built on surrender,

it will stand in purpose.”
