THRONES AND DOMINIONS | DEMONS | CHRISTIAN LAKE
“When you remove the supernatural, what remains is the unnatural.”
— GK Chesterton
“Reality has thresholds where the ordinary thins and you feel a draft from eternity.”
— Peter Kreeft
MATTHEW 12:22–23
22 Then they brought to him a demoniac who was blind and mute; and he cured him, so that the one who had been mute could speak and see.
23 All the crowds were amazed and said, “Can this be the Son of David?”
1 SAMUEL 16:18–23
18 One of the young men answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skillful in playing, a man of valor, a warrior, prudent in speech, and a man of good presence; and the Lord is with him.”
19 So Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me your son David who is with the sheep.”
20 Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and a kid, and sent them by his son David to Saul.
21 And David came to Saul, and entered his service. Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor-bearer.
22 Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Let David remain in my service, for he has found favor in my sight.”
23 And whenever the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, David took the lyre and played it with his hand, and Saul would be relieved and feel better, and the evil spirit would depart from him.
PSALM 91:1–8
1 You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,
2 will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.”
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence;
4 he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night, or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
PSALM 91:9–13
9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge, the Most High your dwelling place,
10 no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder, the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.
PSALM 91:14–16
14 Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them.
16 With long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation.
MATTHEW 12:22–30
22 Then they brought to him a demoniac who was blind and mute; and he cured him, so that the one who had been mute could speak and see.
23 All the crowds were amazed and said, “Can this be the Son of David?”
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons, that this fellow casts out the demons.”
25 He knew what they were thinking and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.
26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand?
27 If I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your own exorcists cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.
28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come to you.
29 Or how can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his property, without first tying up the strong man? Then indeed the house can be plundered.
30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
